Empowering Women Through Movement and Creativity: Join Our Wellbeing Walking Initiatives in Medway

Walking offers more than just physical benefits. It can be a powerful way to support mental health, spark creativity, and build community connections. In Medway, the Black Art Hub CIC has launched three unique wellbeing walking programmes designed specifically for women and girls. These initiatives combine gentle movement with creative activities and mindful reflection, creating safe spaces where participants can slow down, connect, and thrive.

Walking for Connection and Wellbeing

The Black Art Hub CIC’s walking programmes focus on more than exercise. They aim to nurture emotional wellbeing, creativity, and social support. Each walk is led by trained and insured leaders who prioritise inclusion and accessibility. Participants are encouraged to walk at their own pace, with no pressure to keep up or compete.

The three main initiatives are:

These sessions blend photography, poetry, reflection, and conversation. Participants express themselves creatively in a welcoming, beginner-friendly environment. This approach supports emotional wellbeing through artistic exploration and shared storytelling.

  • Medway’s Scenic Photo Walks

(26th May to 30th June 2026) - NLCF & MPAA

Designed for women in perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause, these walks combine gentle movement with photography and social time.

The creative focus helps reduce stress and feelings of isolation, while the group setting builds confidence and mindfulness outdoors.

  • UNPLUG: Vibe & Thrive Walks

(24th May to 28th July 2026) - LGA

These walks bring together adult women and teenage girls aged 13 to 18. The goal is to foster intergenerational connection through relaxed walking and optional mobile photography.

This setting encourages supportive conversations and shared experiences, helping both age groups feel heard and valued.

How These Walks Support Women’s Health

Women face unique challenges that affect their wellbeing. Stress, caring responsibilities, hormonal changes, and loneliness can all take a toll. The Black Art Hub CIC recognises these issues and offers walking programmes that address them holistically.

  • Gentle movement helps improve mood and energy without overwhelming the body.

  • Creative activities like photography and poetry provide new ways to express feelings and build confidence.

  • Social connection reduces isolation and creates supportive networks.

  • Mindful walking encourages participants to slow down and appreciate their surroundings, promoting calm and focus.

These elements combine to create a nurturing environment where women can recharge and find balance.

What to Expect on a Walk

Each walk is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all fitness levels. Here’s what participants can expect:

  • A relaxed pace and time to chat.

  • Optional creative activities, photos & poetry.

  • Safe, inclusive spaces

  • Beautiful local routes showcasing Medway’s natural and cultural highlights.

  • Support from trained walk leaders who guide the group and encourage wellbeing.

For example, during a scenic photo walk, participants might stop to photograph a striking tree or river view, then share their images and thoughts with the group. On a poetry walk, a short poem inspired by the surroundings might be written and read aloud, sparking meaningful conversation.

How to Join and Get Involved

The Black Art Hub CIC welcomes women and girls from all backgrounds to join these walking initiatives. The Phoetry and Scenic programmes are funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and supported by partners such as Ramblers Wellbeing Walks and A Better Medway, 'Unplug' is a 'Let's Get Active' (Medway) community-led initiative, and together we have ensured our walks remain free and accessible.

To participate:

  • Visit the Black Art Hub events page for walk schedules and details.

  • Choose the programme that fits your interests and life stage.

  • Come prepared with comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, water and a phone or camera if you want to join in the creative activities.
