R&B and Neo-Soul: A Journey Through Sound

Rhythm and Blues (R&B) originated in the 1940s, blending jazz, gospel, and blues within African American communities. Known for its smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrics about love and resilience, R&B shaped the sound of Black musical expression.

In the 1990s, Neo-Soul emerged as a modern evolution of R&B, combining soulful melodies with jazz, hip-hop, and funk. Artists like Erykah Badu and D'Angelo brought introspective lyrics and a focus on authenticity, making Neo-Soul a key genre that continues to influence and reflect Black culture today.
