3. Community Part‑Time Librarian (Volunteer)
The Benjamin Zephaniah Library – The Black Art Hub CIC
The Community Part‑Time Librarian supports the growth, organisation, and accessibility of our community‑led library dedicated to Black British arts, culture, poetry, and African diaspora histories. This role is perfect for someone who loves books, community learning, and uplifting underrepresented voices.
Responsibilities

Assist with cataloguing new and donated books (physical and digital)

Maintain organisation of the library space and promote an accessible, welcoming environment
-
Support community members, researchers, and young people in locating resources
-
Help develop book displays, themed collections, or reading lists
-
Maintain borrowing logs and support the development of basic library systems
-
Uphold safeguarding, accessibility, and inclusivity practices

Attend occasional team meetings (online or in person)
Ideal Skills & Qualities

Passionate about Black British culture, arts, literature, and community education

Organised, reliable, and comfortable working independently

Interested in archiving, knowledge preservation, or library sciences

Friendly, patient, and community‑focused

No previous library experience required—training and guidance provided

4. Archival / Journalist / Documentarian (Volunteer)
The Benjamin Zephaniah Library & TBAH Archives—The Black Art Hub CIC
This role supports our mission to preserve, document, and share Black British cultural heritage. Ideal for individuals with an interest in archival work, journalism, documentary storytelling, or community history.
Responsibilities

Assist with organising, labelling, and maintaining archival materials (print, digital, media)
-
Conduct short interviews with community members, artists, or donors (optional)
-
Document events, exhibitions, and oral histories
-
Support the creation of written summaries, short articles, or mini‑features for our website
-
Digitise selected materials and maintain metadata where needed
-
Uphold ethical archival standards, privacy considerations, and cultural sensitivity
-
Attend occasional team meetings (online or in person)
Ideal Skills & Qualities

Passion for cultural preservation, storytelling, and Black British history

Good writing, research, or documentation skills (professional experience not required)

Comfortable using a camera or audio recorder (optional; training can be provided)

Ability to handle materials with care and maintain confidentiality

Interested in developing skills in archiving, ethnography, or community journalism

Volunteer Roles:
Event Support: Help with exhibitions, workshops, and community events—setting up, welcoming visitors, and assisting with activities.
Library assistants support the Benjamin Zephaniah Library with cataloguing books, managing loans, and organising the collection.
Social Media & Communications Help spread the word about our work through social media, newsletter writing, and content creation.
Workshop Assistant: Support workshop facilitators with preparation and delivery.
Fundraising Support: Assist with fundraising campaigns, donor communications, and grant research.
Research & Archiving Help document exhibitions, research Black British artists, and organise our archives.
Administrative Support: General office support, data entry, and organisational tasks.
