Our Patron: Benjamin Zephaniah

The Benjamin Zephaniah Library is named in honour of the late poet, writer, and activist whose work transformed how we see and speak about Black British culture. Benjamin’s legacy of creativity, resistance, and truth‑telling continues to inspire generations. Through this library, we aim to honour and extend his contributions by building a dedicated space for learning, research, and storytelling.
We are deeply grateful to his family for supporting this long‑term initiative, and we look forward to developing the library as a living resource that reflects his spirit and the richness of Black British heritage.
A Living Digital Archive for the Diaspora
The Benjamin Zephaniah Library serves as the learning and education arm of The Black Art Hub CIC. It is an online archival, research, and development platform designed to preserve, document, and amplify Black British histories and cultural knowledge.
The library combines traditional and contemporary storytelling with academic and ethnographic methodologies, creating a unique space for:
-
Digital archives
-
Creative research
-
Community‑led narratives
-
Black British visual culture
-
Poetry, spoken word, and literature
-
AI‑supported counter‑narrative development
By creating accessible digital counternarratives, the library challenges dominant perspectives, broadens representation, and ensures that Black British knowledge, creativity, and heritage remain visible and accessible for future generations.
This is not simply an archive—it is a living digital ecosystem centred on truth‑telling, autonomy, and cultural pride.
Patronage & Family Endorsement
The Black Art Hub CIC is honoured to have received formal confirmation from Qian Zephaniah, endorsing the naming of The Benjamin Zephaniah Library—Research, Development & Digital Archival.
